Before the Christmas holidays I always like to end my year with a quiz or geography related Christmas activity. This year I decided to have a Christmas ‘geography skills’ theme, where students could practice locational knowledge, time zones, grid references, compass directions, latitude and longitude as well as scale.

Activity 1: Santa needs your help!

Using a variety of geographical map skills students are asked to complete a series of tasks which will help Santa deliver his gifts on time. Students could work in groups or individually. Each task has a number of points available, the student(s) with the most points at the end wins!

Activity 2: Mystery Christmas puzzles

I have developed a number of puzzles where students are instructed to colour various grid squares in with specific a colour. Once completed it will reveal a Christmas themed image.
