5 a day

A strategy which can be used as a starter, plenary and even for revision. Its primary purpose is to review previous lesson content as a means of interleaving.

I like to give students an A5 worksheet containing five question boxes, each relating to a different lesson OR a number of topics, with contrasting levels of challenge through the use of various command words.

Students are then given time, without their books for reference, in order to complete each box. Once their time limit is up, I allow them to use their books to complete, check and amend or fill in any blank/incomplete boxes.

This gives students the opportunity to review and assess their prior knowledge in order to identify any gaps in subject content. A perfect feed forward technique for focused revision.
